Acquiring a licence to use the CleanSeal® Mark

Any company wishing to sell tested and approved formulations carrying the CleanSeal® Mark under their own brand or commercial product names, must get a licence from the WoolSafe Organisation.

Those companies who wish to sell tested and approved formulations with the CleanSeal® Mark in one country (usually, but not always, the country in which they are based), require a Single Country Licence (SCL).

Note: For companies based in either the USA or Canada, the SCL applies to both countries.

Those companies who wish to sell tested and approved formulations with the CleanSeal® Mark in more than one country must acquire a Multi-Country Licence (MCL).

Both the SCL and the MCL cover the supplier/manufacturer of the CleanSeal® Approved products as well as any distributors or agents in the country or countries to which the licence applies.

The SCL and MCL fees payable depend on the company's annual sales revenue.

Types of Licensees and their responsibilities for testing and product registration

The type of CleanSeal® Licence depends on whether or not the company manufactures their own products and markets them under their own brand.

Licensees manufacturing and supplying CleanSeal® approved products according to their own formulation(s) and under their own commercial product name(s) are responsible for both the testing and registration/listing of these products.

Licensees supplying CleanSeal® approved products produced by another Licensee, and selling these products under their own commercial product name(s), are responsible for only the registration/listing of these products.

Licensees which are branches of Licensees and who supply one or more CleanSeal® approved products according to their own formulation(s) and under their own commercial product name(s) are responsible for both the testing and the registration/listing of these products.

See Table for the structure of fees payable by Licensees.

Responsibilities for testing and product registration of companies which are not Licensees

Testing fees only are payable by chemical companies manufacturing and supplying one or more CleanSeal® approved products to a Licensee. These companies do not sell these products direct to professional carpet cleaners or consumers; neither do they promote them to other suppliers.

No licence. testing or product registration/listing fees have to be paid by branches, agencies, representatives, distributors or janitorial suppliers of Licensees supplying one or more CleanSeal® approved products under the Licensee's commercial product name(s) in the areas covered by the Licensees' country licence.

Product certification and product name registration

CleanSeal® accreditation applies to a tested and approved chemical formulation. The commercial name of each product with that same formulation has to be registered separately in order to carry the CleanSeal® Mark.

All the commercial names of the approved formulations must be registered for them to be listed in the CleanSeal® directories by type and application method. See www.woolsafe.org for these listings.
